Rank Promotion Tests
for colored belts are scheduled every two months (every even numbered
month i.e., February, April, June, etc.) on either the 2nd or 3rd
Saturday. Each scheduled testing date is marked on the
school's
Annual Calendar which is posted on the Announcement Board at the school
and on the school's website.

Colored Stripes are given to our younger students as a way for them
(and their parents) to track their progress during the period prior to
the Promotion Test.
The student must collect 5 colored stripes
on their belt prior to each Promotion Test from the Masters to be
eligible to test. By earning 5 colored stripes during the
two-month period before each test, shows the Masters (and your parents)
that you are Ready to Test!
The student must earn colored stripes by performing well
in their regular classes. During certain classes the Masters will
observe each student's knowledge and techniques as they practice their
Forms, Basic Motions, kicking, punching, yelling, etc. They will
then let the students know at the end of the class who has earned a
colored stripe. Colored stripes are not awarded every day.
It's important to attend class on a regular basis so that you can
earn your colored stripes!

Approximately 2 weeks before each promotion test the Masters will post on the Announcement Board a list of students (testing candidates) who are ready to test. Check to see if your name is on the list. If you are on the list, check to see what time you are scheduled to test.
You will then need to pick up a Rank Promotion Test Application for your belt level and fill it out and turn it in by the deadline (see below).
Prior to turning in your Application, review it as to what you will be tested on. Depending on the belt level, students are tested on:
- Colored Belt Basic Motions
- Colored Belt Form
- Breaking
- Self-Defense (Green Belt Test and higher)
- Weapons (Brown Belt Test and higher)
- Sparring (Jr. Black Belt Test and higher) |
- Attitude
- Ki-Hap (Yell)
- Punching Techniques
- Kicking Techniques
- Discipline |
Note: Depending on their age and level of ability, Little Tigers
students could be tested on a "shorter version" of their Form.
Please check with the Masters to make sure you know what they
will be tested on.
Turn in your Application and Testing Fee to the school by the Wednesday prior to the test.

During each regular class on the Wednesday and Thursday before the Promotion Test you will have the opportunity to practice your "Board Breaking." The cost to practice your "Breaking" is included in your Testing Fee. However, if you practice more than once, (or on both nights) you will need to pay for your extra
boards. Or, if you are not a 'testing candidate' and practice,
you will need to pay for your boards. The cost of the boards will
be posted at the school.

- Wear your regular uniform top and pants (TKD t-shirts are not allowed).
- Arrive at the school at least 15 minutes early to practice (Masters will be available if you have any last-minute questions).
- During the test, pay attention and do your best!

| Presentation of New Belts and Certificates |
New Belts and certificates are awarded at the end of each class
starting on the Wednesday of the following week after the test.
If a student didn't perform well and needs to 're-do' any portion
of the test, they will be notified by the Masters.
For students that cannot make it to the test on their scheduled
date/time, they can arrange for a "make-up" test. The "make-up"
testing date and times will also be posted on the Announcement Board at
the same time as the list of candidates. If you are doing a
"make-up" test, all other procedures as stated above remain the same.

Discover
Your Maximum Potential
|
TaeKwonDo
is the most popular
form of Korean Martial Arts with 2000 years of history. It is taught
worldwide in over 115 countries totaling over 100 million students. The
word TaeKwonDo means: TAE-to strike with feet; KWON-to destroy with
fists; DO-the right ways. Carmel TaekwonDo teaches the traditional
Korean TaeKwonDo with experienced masters.

Self-Confidence
Through Patience and Discipline
|
Indomitable
spirit is the
wellspring of the martial artist's courage. It is the foundation of the
martial attitude that nothing is impossible. Indomitable spirit
requires the belief that victory is possible. It requires a refusal to
surrender, to give up, to collapse, or to believe in shortcomings. A
TaeKwonDo workout is demanding. It is difficult. It should pose
challenges that students do not think they can meet. It should even,
from time to time, seem impossible. However, the determination to try
is what matters most.
TaeKwonDo
values a determined
commitment to do the impossible, and to push one's limits at all times.
Eventually, students discover that determination brings its own rich
rewards in the form of accomplishment and enormous satisfaction. Carmel
TaeKwonDo teaches and requires a tough and resilient will to develop
coordination and overcome exhaustion and fear. Carmel TaeKwonDo teaches
and requires indomitable spirit of each student by acquiring
self-confidence through patience and discipline. We take teaching
seriously.
Learning
self-defense is an
insurance against the hazards of modern living. Through simulated
situations of what could happen in real life, Carmel TaeKwonDo will
prepare you to protect yourself against assault. Our techniques can be
supplied by anyone as you will learn to use your opponent's strength
and energy to your advantage. By knowing how to defend yourself, your
confidence will grow and act as a deterrent to any would-be attacker.
Develop the power of positive thinking.
In
1975,
the sport of
TaeKwonDo was admitted by the General Association of International
Sports Federation (GAISF) and it has become an accredited event for the
Olympic Games since the 1988 Olympics. TaeKwonDo is not just a martial
art, but also a main sport in the Olympics. Having Masters with winning
experiences in various championships, Ahn's TaeKwonDo provides special
sparring classes with Olympic rules and regulations for the long term
Olympic goals of medals.
